By the time the teen's mother found out this week and alerted the authorities, Grear and the teen had had sex in a park, her car and her apartment, investigators said.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office arrested Grear on Tuesday and charged her with solicitation of a child and three counts of sexual battery.
She told detectives: "I'm 22 and he's 14. I knew better. I'm a mother and have a 2-year-old daughter of my own," according to Detective Cass Collins.
It's rare for women to be arrested for soliciting minors online, said Mike Phillips, special agent supervisor for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's computer crime center. Most often, pedophiles are men, he said.
She worked last year as a cheerleading coach or assistant at Maranatha Christian Academy in Palm Beach Gardens and is still affiliated with the school, Collins said. School officials could not be reached for comment despite attempts by phone.
Grear's attorney, Jack Goldberger, said she is a "sweet girl who has never had contact with the system." He declined to discuss the details of the case but said "there is another side to the story." She is deeply upset, he said.
Grear first contacted the boy through Myspace.com, a popular teenage social networking site, Collins said. From there, she began calling him at home, pretending at times to be a girl his age when his mother answered the phone.
Then things turned physical, according to the statement investigators say Grear gave them. They kissed twice. She took him to a park to perform sex acts on him. They had intercourse in her car and her apartment in a motel/efficiency complex on Singer Island run by her grandparents.
Grear was expected to be released from the Palm Beach County Jail on a $10,000 bond on the condition that she remain under house arrest and have no contact with the boy or other children beside her daughter, Goldberger said.
The Web site has added tips for parents to monitor their children's use of the site, including encouraging them not to post anything that could endanger them.
"You've got a lot of adults with access to children on that site," Collins said. "Kids put their pictures there, where they go to school and what kind of music they like. It gives you everything."
Access to Grear's Myspace account was restricted Wednesday. But one line remained public: "Why don't you just build a bridge so you get over it and me kid ... we're friends with benefits."
