CASCO (Nov 18, 2005): The town of Casco rescue worker charged with raping a Casco woman last Wedn... Alleged Casco rapist free
Harrison resident Scott Mondor, 31, who also works at a Windham car dealership, was released Sunday after posting $10,000 bail, following his arrest around midnight last Wednesday on a felony charge of gross sexual assault.
Mondor had responded as a volunteer EMT to two separate calls involving the 39-year-old victim’s young daughter, said Captain William Rhoads, of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
Last Monday and again the next day, the victim and her two-year old child were taken by ambulance to a hospital where the daughter was treated and released.
According to the police report, the victim said that on the following day, Wednesday, Mondor called her at her home, asking if he had left a thermometer behind.
She answered that he had and he arrived to retrieve it at about 5:30 p.m. Mondor asked how her daughter was feeling and if he could check on her. He also asked if she was alone.
After he looked in on the girl, Mondor and the victim discussed a book she was reading about wine. She told him that red wine was beneficial in combating viruses. At that point, according to the victim’s report, Mondor asked her for a glass of wine. She poured a glass for each of them and they drank the wine while sitting on the couch.
The report then charges that Mondor began rubbing her shoulders, telling her he was training to be a massage therapist. When she resisted, he mentioned he was a hunter and had a gun. When he persisted in his advances, the victim told him to stop.
Police charge that Mondor then became enraged and asked her if she wanted anything to happen to her daughter. At that point, the victim feared for her safety and the safety of her daughter if she were to resist.
According to the report, Mondor then grabbed her and shoved her into the bedroom where she was forced to perform several sex acts. As he prepared to leave, he told her he would be back.
After Mondor had gone, the victim called her brother, a Portland police officer, to tell him what happened and to ask advice. He advised her not to shower and to call E-911. The brother then drove to her house and was there not long after the first deputy arrived.
Cumberland County Sheriff Deputies responded to the emergency call with Deputy William Bessette the first on the scene and Detective Paul Thorpe assigned to the case.
Deputy Jennifer Gage, also from the sheriff’s office, escorted the victim to Maine Medical Center in Portland where medical personnel conducted a rape examination.
According to Casco Town Manager David Morton, Mondor came to the town in September as a state-certified basic emergency medical technician. As such, he would have been screened by the state, a process that includes criminal background and driving record checks.
